I took a test today; the test is to run a mile in ten minutes. I finished in 7:23. Amazingly, I finished with enough left to walk/jog another quarter mile. I’ll be repeating this test later in the summer. I’ve got to be ready for my trip in the fall.
The test was inspired by this article. I did no special preparation as I read the article this morning and ran this afternoon. I had to modify things a bit since I don’t have access to the treadmill. Instead I marked out a half-mile track and used a stop watch to measure time; the low tech version. I ran the first half mile pretty well, the second half I had to rest (walking) a bit to get through. By the end I was feeling it, alternately jogging and walking.
Chris is right, I need to put conditioning higher on the priority list. Last year I had thought to acquire a prowler and push it to the corner and back, but I was concerned that it would impede my progress on the linear progression. But after reading Sully’s book I’ve changed my mind. I’m not heading to competition; it’s time to climb back on the Airdyne for more regular 3 minute intervals.
By the way, all the best to Leah Lutz who in a few days WILL be competing at the 2017 IPF Classic Raw Worlds; an inspiring woman indeed!
Go Leah!
