Rogue Fitness: Legends of Strength

Rogue Fitness is producing a video series telling the story of legends of strength.  Here is the announcement for the series.

The first episode tells the story of Eugen Sandow.  He was a German strongman and circus performer considered by historians to be the “father of modern bodybuilding.”

They have just released the second.  It tells the story of Louis Uni known by his stage name Apollon.

Both of these men were very strong.  However, because the equipment they used was based on found items it’s difficult to compare them to today’s lifters.

I am agog at the strength of such lifters as Brian Shaw and Hafthor Bjornson to pick two recent winner of the strongest man in the world award.  Even though we have the most obese population ever to walk the earth, we are also witness to the strongest humans ever to have roamed the earth.  Impossible to tell, I know, but with the ability to focus on gaining pure strength, coupled with modern health protections, and an unlimited diet, the conditions are certainly present.

And these giants of strength are not just men.  There are women such as Jennifer Millican who regularly lifts more weight than I ever will.  It’s amazing!

People are using the benefits of modern life to push the envelope on human performance every day.  I find their stories are incredibly inspiring.

This one got me off the couch and under the bar.

Go Gus!

Here is another 90-year-old man who has improved his life by getting stronger.

I only wish I had started earlier; but as these examples show it’s really never too late.
